Hafen Is Submitted: Our Theme on Its Way to the Official WordPress Directory

Submitting a theme is a different thing than submitting a plugin. The WordPress.org theme team reviews against a long, public list of requirements: licenses down to the last font file, accessibility, a clean separation of presentation and functionality, not a single bit of advertising in the frontend. That's exactly the list we've been polishing Hafen against over the past weeks — and today we pressed the button.

What Hafen is, in three sentences

Hafen is a fast, accessible block theme for Full Site Editing. The entire theme share of a page comes to around 7 KB of CSS and JavaScript in two requests; with the self-hosted Inter font, everything together stays under 55 KB, without a single external call. On top of that come 32 ready-made patterns, five style variations from Nordsee to Nachtfahrt, and block styles for content that answer engines like to quote — or, if you prefer, entirely without any font download using the Stapellauf variation.

What happened for the submission

Version 0.8.0 isn't a cosmetic version badge but the result of a full review pass:

• Theme Check passed: The theme team's official checking tool ran 11,622 individual tests against the package — zero errors, zero warnings.
• Test data run: The theme was clicked through on a fresh WordPress install with the official theme unit test data — from tenfold-nested comments to image alignment, on desktop and mobile.
• Accessibility: Links in body text are now underlined by default instead of colored only — a small change that makes the difference for people with color vision deficiencies.
• English as source language: So the international community can translate Hafen, all source strings are English. German ships as a complete translation — German websites see exactly the same texts as before.

And Hafen Core? Finished — but in the lock

The companion plugin Hafen Core brings what, per the directory guidelines, doesn't belong in a theme: schema output, llms.txt, answer blocks, the AI crawler statistics. Version 1.0.0 is fully built and has been through the same review marathon as the theme — all 522 source strings English, the German translation complete, plus a batch of improvements: the setup assistant never again replaces an existing homepage unasked, the llms.txt in the full version now delivers real content sections instead of short excerpts, and the robots.txt signals sit exactly where strict parsers expect them.

Hafen Core still isn't submitted, though — for one simple reason: the plugin directory allows one open review ticket per account, and ours is currently occupied by Leadlotse. As soon as that ticket is through, Hafen Core goes the same way. The package doesn't age in the meantime; it sits versioned and ready.
